Governor Appeals to New Yorkers to Donate to 9/11 Fund
April 11, 2006
With just four days to go before taxes are due, Governor George Pataki is reminding New Yorkers to contribute to the World Trade Center memorial. A check-off box on the New York State income tax form allows people and businesses to give directly to the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation. This is the first year New Yorkers will see the check-off box. The legislation that created it was signed into law this past October. The money donated will be deducted from the tax refund or added to amount due to the state. Construction on the memorial, "Reflecting Absence," began last month. Foundation officials say more than 8,000 New Yorkers have already contributed to the memorial using tax forms.
